The Marine Corps League (MCL) perpetuates the traditions and the spirit of all Marines and Navy FMF Corpsmen who proudly wears or who have worn the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor of the Corps. It takes great pride in crediting its founding in 1923 to World War I hero, then Major General Commandant John A. Lejeune. It takes equal pride in its Federal charter, approved by an act of the 75th Congress of the United States and signed and approved by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 4, 1937.
The Marine Corps League is the only Federally Chartered Marine Corps related Veterans organization in the country. Since its earliest days, the Marine Corps League has enjoyed the support and encouragement of the Active Duty and Reserve establishments of the U. S. Marine Corps.
Today, the League boasts a membership of approximately 76,000 men and women. The membership comes from Officers, Enlisted, Active Duty Marines, Reserve Marines, honorably discharged Marine Veterans, and qualified Navy Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Corpsmen. The Marine Corps League is one of the few Veterans organizations that experiences increases in its membership each year.
The Marine Corps League is headed by an elected National Commandant and 14 elected National Staff Officers. Those officers serve as the National Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees coordinates the efforts of the 49 department, of state, entities and the activities of over 1,100 community based detachments located throughout the United States and overseas.
Marine Corps League Middle Peninsula Detachment 1317 is comprised of Marines, their families, and supporters that serve our Active Military, Veterans, their families, and local communities within the Gloucester and Gloucester County, Virginia area.
MCL 1317 is the home Detachment area for Marine Corps legend LT. General Lewis "Chesty" Puller.
These individuals are the Officers for Marine Corps League Middle Peninsula Detachment 1317 for March, 2025-February, 2026.
